Welcome to the world, Riley

Little Riley, all 6 pounds and 2 ounces of her, arrived just after noon on Friday, July 15th, and becomes the newest member of the David, Samantha and Hannah family!  Yes, I've got another granddaughter :)  She's got all her parts and a full head of hair and although the doctors are going to be keeping on eye on a situation with her heart all the reports coming from N.C. are that she's a happy and alert beautiful bundle of joy.  I'm not exactly sure when I'm going to make it over to see her but I'm sure she'll do just fine in the growing department until I get there which hopefully will be in a few weeks or so.  So, here's the little darling:
Is that a beautiful little girl or what?

Hannah, Samantha and David... all looking rather happy.  I don't know where Riley is!

Reports are coming in that Hannah has pretty much taken charge of bringing up her sister.  Looking at this photo the kids sent over, they appear to enjoy each other's company.

This is one of the things babies do... sleep.  Soon she'll wake up and do the other two, then get back to sleep.  Personally, I think it rather amazing that she's able to sleep given those shorts!

Look at these two beautiful girls!!!

Glad I was at Mom's House

Good I was visiting with mom and at her house because mom decided to make the last day of my stay very exciting by falling down the last couple of steps in the basement and breaking her hip!  I was upstairs laying on the bed, trying to take a nap and sort of dozing on and off.  I do remember hearing some kind of bump or something but when nothing came after it I didn't pay attention.  I don't know how long after that -- maybe 10-15 minutes -- I did get up and started down the stairs and heard mom calling out for me.  I ran down to the main floor, looked for her but couldn't find her.  Then I saw the basement door was open and the light was on.  I looked down and there was my poor mother at the bottom of the stairs in a bad way.  Of course she was trying to do to much as she always does, went down for some pots or something for the evenings festivities, and fell as she started back up.  I ran to call 911 then went down to try to comfort her as best I could but it was obvious she was in a lot of pain.  It was lot more serious and unnerving than it sounds as I recount it but the EMS folks got her out of the basement and over to LaGrange where she stayed for a few hours before being transferred to Good Samaritan.  I know she is going to hate me for putting these next photos up but, so be it.

Not at all happy laying, still, on the backboard as she gets buckled up for her transfer.

Bedded down at Good Samaritan.  This is about 7 hours after the fall and the break hasn't been tended to at all -- surgery the next morning -- and she's already showing a smile :)  I had to leave town the next day but mom went in for her surgery and I checked in on the way home.  As she has in the past, she was a trooper and of course everyone on staff loved her... just sorry she was hurt and in the hospital.  The following shots where taken during her recovery.

Four days after the surgery she was transferred to the rehab facility and hard at work.
Sitting outside just enjoying the day after her rehab sessions.
One week after surgery!  The girl just refuses to let a stupid thing like a busted hip slow her down!

Fool in the Pool

If you read the 'NC Trip' posting in the May postings you read that I made it over to see all the kids and grandkids in NC and had a most wonderful time of it.  During that trip we had an awful lot of fun playing in the activity pool with everyone.  The way this started was that David and Samantha had borrowed one of these things from a friend to try it out.  David had it set up the first morning I was there and of course we had to try it out.  The one they borrowed looked like this:

Of course I had to try it out so with David, Hannah and me playing around I just had to make a fool of myself.  After all, I couldn't let my son show me up.  I didn't know it but Samantha had grabbed the video camera and got all the fun recorded for posterity.  To watch this 'Fool in the Pool' trying to keep up with his son, and granddaughter for that matter, check out Samantha's video at:   http://youtu.be/HdfN0Q70WXQ

The result of all of this merriment was that we just had to go get one of these things and ended up getting the one they wanted.  So we did and within a couple of hours of this video being shot we had gone out and gotten the new one.  Now when it comes time for water fun to be had, the kids are all set to go.  I made it known that there was no way I would ever get one of these things for my household but for the grandkids, why not!
