Sausages; no peppers

Things have been moving along rather nicely on a number of fronts and that's always good.  The kids are getting over the flu and the new baby is coming along nicely.  David and Samantha were hoping to find out the sex of the little tyke last week but the little one wouldn't cooperate in the laying still department.  The weather is warming up nicely and although we're just reaching mid-February Susan and I are kind of hoping that winter is behind us and these nice warm days are here to stay, at least until next December or so.  The days are getting longer and that just adds to the list of good things happening.

So, the title of this post.  The family used to vacation at Lake Lawn Lodge up in Delevan, WI for many, many years.  A wonderful place that my dad had found that allowed for all the kids to just wander and play in a safe environment.  During one such annual vacation up to the lake we encountered some new-comers who had taken over the marina operation with a few handmade boats and little else.  Meet the Johnsons... Bill and Jane.  Although only seeing these folks for a couple weeks a year, a friendship developed over the years that lasts until today.  Well, somewhere along the line the families got together to cook up some Italian sausage and green peppers.  Although Jane said it will be nice to get the families together her real reason was that she hadn't had a properly prepared sausage since marrying "Burn-em-up" Bill who, according to Jane, had the innate ability to turn a piece of fresh sausage into charcoal quicker than one could say "Don't burn them this time!"  I grilled the sausages and Jane made the peppers and I really have no idea at all what Bill did while this went on.  Anyway, it's been a while and it's just one of those things in my earlier life that I really miss today.  Some of us are gone now, but others have joined the families.  Regardless, it's still missed.

Yesterday I decided to cook up some sausages and spaghetti and something just hit me to take some pictures for Jane to remember the good times by.  So, here you are, Jane... sausages like the good ol' days.  Like the title of the post says though:  just sausages; no peppers.  You'll have to make those :)

Grilling away nicely... just keep Bill away from them.

Just about ready to take them off.

And there you have it!  A terrific plate of spaghetti with a perfectly cooked sausage to boot!!
